Filippa is a new addition to our bag-in-box range.
It is an old apple variety that originates from Hundstrup in South Funen, and the variety has been known in Denmark since 1889. Filippa is a healthy and hardy variety, which is well-suited to the sandy soil of West Jutland. It is a variety that we will be planting more of in the coming years.
We have 500 Filippa trees in the orchard, and it is an incredibly healthy apple tree that does not produce a huge yield – but the flavor is entirely its own. Filippa are often picked slightly before they are ripe, as they otherwise fall off easily. Therefore, we let them post-ripen for a few days in crates until they have just the right flavor.
Filippa is a fresh and tart culinary apple, and the light juice smells of pineapple and tastes like grandmother's apple cake on a warm September day years ago. For some, it is their favorite for any time of day due to its strong apple flavor, while for others, it is a bit too much.
